.“In the global creative economy,
the competitiveness of a business lies in the strength of its thinking,”
said Mr. Apisit Laistrooglai, Managing Director of Thailand Creative
& Design Center. “Creative practitioners and entrepreneurs can create
value to their products or services through robust knowledge of design.”
.........“TCDC is committed to create a conducive environment for Creative Knowledge to grow, making it accessible to as wide a public as possible. These exhibitions are important venues to spark new inspirations and creativities in the general public,” added Mr. Apisit. “It is also a great way to drive the creative industries forward.” .........The two exhibitions are geared towards local designers and entrepreneurs, who would benefit from understanding the essence of the creative thinking and design processes from these two European nations, rich in design history. |
|
| .........The
first exhibition “Foodjects: Design & the New Cuisine in Spain”, in
collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Thailand, showcases the evolution
of taste from traditional cuisine to molecular gastronomic delights we
come to associate with Spanish chefs such as Ferran Adri? of El Bulli.
The exhibition will shed some lights on how chefs and designers come to
innovate and push the boundary of eating in a culture steep in culinary
history. Such fusion in food and design extends too into the industries,
leading to innovation in kitchen utensils, tableware, food products and
table decorations that truly reflect the unique Mediterranean characteristics. .........Viewers will get the chance to delve behind the culinary and design experimentation and find out how these chefs and designers succeed in pushing the envelope while still be able to maintain the strong cultural identity. They will learn the inspirations behind such innovation. For examples: there is Gemma Bernal who explores the fluidity of ceramics, creating containers that appear like drops of water on the table. Then there is Luki Huber, whose playful designs toy with using leftfield materials, such as silicone, on familiar household objects. Or take Curro Claret, who created fruit bowls out of orange packaging, taking recycling full-circle. |

.........Besides
food, there are many sources of inspiration and innovation in design
and no better exhibition highlights the diversity of this than “CRISS+CROSS:
Design from Switzerland”. This world renowned traveling exhibition,
organised by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, features an in-depth
look at the Swiss way of design. If you ever wonder how this small country
can produce design icons from Le Corbusier to Helvetica font, the 400
items on display can give you the answers. These carefully curated items
reflect on the very crossroads between contemporary arts and traditions,
and between craftsmanship and technology that Switzerland occupies.
|
|
| .........The
exhibition consists of eight sections representing different design narratives.
There are, for examples, a section devoted on designs that sprung from
Swiss tourism, such as the cable cars, and one titled “Longsellers”, which
features national staples such as the ubiquitous Swiss Army Knife. These
products exemplify the cross-pollination of Swiss engineering and design,
most adept at intricate mechanism such as watch, musical box, digital
camera and hearing aid. Beyond the realm of machine, there is a section
highlighting their printing heritage as well. .........Explore the different dimensions of design from the Western Hemisphere at “Foodjects: Design & the New Cuisine in Spain” and “CRISS+CROSS: Design from Switzerland”. The exhibitions open to the public free of charge at 10:30 – 21:00 hrs daily (closed Mondays) from November 25, 2011 to January 22, 2012 at Gallery 2, TCDC, 6th floor, The Emporium Shopping Complex.
