......... Bangkok, November 23, 2011: The organizing committee of the inaugural Thailand Golf Championship has confirmed the event will be held as scheduled from December 15-18, 2011 at Amata Spring Country Club as the flood situation in Thailand is relenting.

.........Amata Spring Country Club was unaffected by the floods and is in perfect condition to welcome many of the best golfers in the world to the Asian Tour’s season-ending tournament next month. Mr. Suwat Liptapanlop, Vice President of the Thailand Olympic Committee under the Patronage of HM the King, former Deputy Prime Minister and the President of the organizing committee, alongside corporations from the Host Venue, the Sponsors and the Promoter and Asian Tour and IMG announced today that preparation for the Thailand Golf Championship was moving ahead with numerous fund raising activities such as auctions and ticket sales being planned for flood relief.
.........Mr. Suwat said: “The event will be held from December 15-18, 2011, at Amata Spring Country Club even though certain parts of Thailand were combating the unfortunate floods. The situation is now under control, with people and businesses resuming normal operations. With every passing day, the situation is getting better and better, which is great news for all involved. The Amata Spring Country Club was not affected by the floods and is in perfect condition to welcome the star players from all over the world. The Bangkok floods certainly affected both the social and economic sectors in Thailand. The country’s image was shaken and we need to rebuild the country’s image immediately to gain confidence from worldwide countries with integrated marketing and public relations activities.
.........“Confirmation that all the world-class professional golfers are still committed to the Thailand Golf Championship is a good sign and a reassuring vote-of-confidence for Thailand and the event. With the support of our partners and players, we will make this tournament a successful one.” The organizing committee also revealed the addition of the following star players for the inaugural tournament: Sergio Garcia (Spain), Lu Chien-soon (Chinese Taipei), Simon Dyson (England), Soren Hansen (Denmark), Tommy Fleetwood (England), Gregory Bourdy (France), Thorbjorn Olesen (Denmark), Michael H. Thompson (USA), Charley Hoffman (USA), Jamie Donaldson (Wales), Shingo Katayama (Japan), Romain Wattel (France), Stephen Dodd (Wales) and Damien McGrane (Ireland), Alex Cejka (Germany), Oliver Fisher (England), John Parry (England) and additional five leading players from Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO)
   
.........Garcia will be the man on form as he won successive tournaments on home soil last month, the Andalucia Masters and Castello Masters to rise up to 17th place on the Official World Golf Ranking.
.........This year’s Major winners Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland, world number three Lee Westwood of England, Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa and Thai golfing legend Thongchai Jaidee are already confirmed for the event.
.........Mr. Suwat added “We are very pleased to announce that some of the leading players in the world will donate their personal golf accessories for an auction to help alleviate the nation’s severe flooding situation. The auction will be made online EBAY website from November 25 – December 4, 2011.”
.........Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han said that “We are fully supportive of the various initiatives taken by Amata Spring and the local organizing committee to raise funds for flood relief in Thailand. I am confident the inaugural Thailand Golf Championship will help bring about fresh hope for the people of Thailand and it is wonderful to see the players contributing various items towards the auction. The event will be broadcast live over the four days on the Asian Tour’s global television platform on Golf Channel-True Visions.
