Electrolux Unveils ‘Keyhole Hob’ the Latest Thoughtful Design Innovation

Recent Gold accolade award winner from the prestigious Singapore Design Awards 2010 that brings together the best of both worlds in a unique hob combining European elegance and leading technology with Asian wok-cooking
Electrolux has introduced a unique keyhole-shaped induction and gas hob targeted at the Asian markets and designed with Asian cooking in mind. Combining the best of both worlds, the new hob spots a simple and elegant European design, making this newbie the ‘IT’ appliance in the Asian kitchen.
........... “We have taken the best from two worlds – induction and gas - and put it together in an elegant, novel and eye-catching shape. This is definitely a product that stands out from ordinary hobs. It is powerful, yet very neat to look at. The black and silver colour combination makes it blend nicely with any modern kitchen design,” says Mr. Dominic Wong, Category Director – Food Preparation, Electrolux South East Asia.
...........This latest thoughtful design innovation from Electrolux – the keyhole-shaped induction and gas hob was also awarded the Gold accolade in the Industrial Design (Home Appliance) category recently at the prestigious Singapore Design Awards 2010.
...........“We are extremely honoured and thrilled to win the prestigious gold award,” said Mr. Wong. “The award is testimony to the unique approach of Electrolux called ‘Thoughtful Design’ that focuses on thinking about the user. This design philosophy is at the very heart of the Electrolux brand, and Electrolux design team is constantly looking for new ways to create holistic products that are easy to use, relevant and create desirable end-user experiences.”
Based on consumer insight
...........The new hob is based on the consumer insight that Asian cooking requires discerning stir-frying skills as well as precise soup simmering. Gas is excellent for wok-cooking, while induction is great for simmer control.

...........Designing the new hob has also incorporated extensive consumer research. Focus group feedback from consumers on the hob included, ‘unique and innovative’, ‘looks easy to clean’, as well as ‘it’s simple and elegant.’ Consumers were also impressed with the design’s windproof burner, the combination of induction and gas, and the powerful, concentrated flames from the gas burner.
...........The keyhole-shaped induction and gas hob’s simple yet unique design blends well into the modern kitchen, and allows users to experiment with a wide variety of cooking techniques. Combining the best of both worlds, the keyhole-shaped hob also offers a sense of balance despite two very distinct cooking technologies. The result is a shape that emphasizes the cylindrical aspect of wok-cooking, and also expresses the use and functionality of the product
Designed with attention to detail
...........The consumer validation work has allowed the hob to be designed with significant attention to detail. Lowering the wok burner means the flame is less prone to being blown out by wind gusts. If the flame should go out the gas is cut immediately. Consumers don’t have to worry about leaving their windows open as they cook, and about the flame being blown out and gas filling the kitchen.
...........The new Electrolux induction and gas hob will be available at Electrolux key kitchen appliances modern trade, such as Boonthavorn and Homepro from this October onward. The recommended retail price is 25,900 Baht.
